Nothing beats the summer heat like indulging in a cool, creamy milkshake. My boyfriend often reminisces about past summers where he and his family would drive through Georgia and stop at small town peach stands and get peach milkshakes, telling me they’re one of the best things ever.
Peach milkshakes seem to be the thing right now, I see many different restaurants offering them but I figured nothing would compare to homemade.
Ripe peaches, creamy vanilla ice cream, milk, and pure vanilla extract are the only ingredients I used to make this milkshake and let me tell you – this milkshake taste just like summer.
When it comes to sweets I typically gravitate towards chocolate, but this peach milkshake really hits the spot. I looooovvvveeeeeee milkshakes but I’ll typically go for a chocolate one, well now that I’ve been introduced to this, this may be my new summer tradition for seasons to come.
Since peaches are in season right now I highly recommend you use fresh, ripe peaches to make this shake. I’m sure frozen would work just as well but the sweetness of a fresh, ripe peach – simply cannot compare. A perfectly ripe peach is key to the flavor of this milkshake.
When it comes to milkshakes I have pretty high standards, there a 3 rules to the perfect milkshake:
1) Lots of flavor (I don’t like it when their so bland you can barely taste what kind of milkshake it is)
2) Thick – I want to be able to sip a milkshake through a straw but I like it thick enough that it’s almost still like ice cream.
3) Creamy – this can be achieved by good ice cream and choice of milk. When making milkshakes I try not to let the ice cream thaw too much before adding it to the blender. The colder the ice cream, the thicker the milkshake. Since this milkshake uses a vanilla ice cream, use either a french vanilla or a richer natural vanilla ice cream. I really like french vanilla because of the vanilla beans in it, it really delivers rich vanilla flavor.
When it comes to the liquid, whole milk is best. Whole milk has more fat which gives a creamy, richer flavor and consistency. If you don’t have whole milk, half & half or 2% milk can also give good texture to any shake too. Skim milk or almond milk are not recommended because it could result in a thinner consistency and change the flavor.

- 4 large, ripe peach (frozen may be used if fresh are not available)
- 4 cups french vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 cup milk (whole milk is best for creaminess)
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- whipped cream and cherry for topping (optional)
- Peel and cut peaches into smaller chunks, make sure pit and stem are removed.
- Add peaches, ice cream, milk, and vanilla extract to a blender and blend until all ingredients are thoroughly combined, thick and smooth. For a thinner consistency add more milk and blend for 30 more seconds.
- Pour milkshake into glasses, top with whipped cream & cherries if desired and serve immediately.
- *fresh, ripe peaches are best for this recipe but frozen can be used as well
- *whole milk is best for creaminess but 2% will work as well. If you use skim milk the shake may not be as creamy and almond milk may alter the texture and flavor of the shake.
