Are you ready for an over-the-top milkshake recipe?! Allow me to introduce this decadent recipe for Boozy Red Velvet Milkshakes. These aren’t just any basic milkshakes! There’s booze, there’s cupcakes, there’s sprinkles, whipped cream and possibly more cupcakes! Once you get a taste of this masterpiece, you’ll never want a basic milkshake again.

the beauty of homemade milkshakes

Do you ever make milkshakes at home? Personally, I think making them at home is the best way to enjoy them! When you make recipes yourself you are completely in control. Pick your ice cream, the mix-ins, the liquid, the garnishes, all of it! You don’t need any fancy equipment other than a standard blender, that’s it. Straws don’t hurt either but if you don’t have those sipping spoonfuls of delicious, creamy milkshakes never hurt anyone either.

simple ingredients, delicious results

Luckily not a whole lot goes into making a milkshake. Essentially it’s just milk and ice cream. While the basic milkshake is still amazing, I say let’s throw a few more ingredients in there to make them freaking fabulous. So what do you need to make  Boozy Red Velvet Milkshakes? I’m happy you asked, you’ll need: vanilla ice cream, red velvet cupcakes (frosting and all), Bailey’s Red Velvet Liquor, some milk (if you don’t just want alcohol for the liquid) and don’t forget the whipped cream and sprinkles!

Now when it comes to milkshakes I don’t believe there’s a magic ratio or measurement of ingredients. If you like you shake a little thicker; do more ice cream, less milk. A little thinner you say? Add some more milk. Some people like a lot of mix in like cookie crumbs, candy, hot fudge, whatever. In this case we are throwing in a whole, yes whole, red velvet cupcake (even with the frosting)! You can either you’ve cupcakes you’ve made recently or the store bought ones will be perfect too. I also used the Bailey’s liquor as the liquid but you can use it in combination with milk. Between the cupcakes and the Bailey’s this milkshake blends into the prettiest pink hue you’ve ever seen. No food coloring necessary!

Don’t forget to turn this into a true celebration and top your milkshake with whipped cream, sprinkles, heck – throw a cupcake on the rim of your glass.

  • ½ cup Bailey's Red Velvet Liquor use less if you'd like

Continue to blend on medium speed until the cupcakes are fully blended into the shake. You may want to add a little more liquid if the shake is too thick. If you don't want to add more liquor but need more liquid, add a ¼ cup of milk at a time and blend until you reach your desired consistency. Pour milkshakes into glasses, top with whipped and sprinkles. Serve and enjoy immediately.
